We had the good fortune of connecting with Stacy Moffatt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stacy, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally? I pursued a creative career because that is the most authentic way I connect with the world. I always knew everything else would leave me feeling like there was a void.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career?
I am a trained Illustrator, who started a career in lettering to pay for school. These two unique skills are what have helped me stand out in the commercial arts, and chalkboard industry. I should be clear, these skills, and a whole mess of luck.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would say, you have got to check out the unique neighborhoods of Los Angeles with its eclectic architecture (ie. lots of awesome walks), going for bike rides in the nature reserves, the Santa Ana Riverbed, and hitting the beaches and the hiking trails. There are some spaces I have longed to check out but haven’t had the opportunity, like Gallery 1989 in Costa Mesa, or the Laguna Beach Harvest festival. They are on the bucket list!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost my parents have always supported me and my wild ways. Without them, literally none of this would be possible, and who knows where I would be. But artistically, yes, wow, I would have to start with Micheal Stiles. Before him, the lettering that I am so well known for now, was all over the place. He showed me the basics, and gave me a judgement-free place to start from. His words of wisdom? Slow down and be patient. Another stepping-stone in my artistic journey was the foundations of illustration I learned at California State University, Long Beach. That education taught me how to draw anything technically, which meant I became a consistently legible illustrator, similar in terms of learning a trade. Without that foundation, I would not have the tools to walk into any situation and address it in a professional manner. An artist who greatly influenced me during my time at CSULB was Jennifer Cotterill. Being an undergraduate while she pursued her Masters, gave me so much insight to my own capabilities, and I was so grateful to study in a realm with such an overwhelmingly talented and creative person oozed excellence with all of the humility in the world. Since opening my business, the most inspirational business owner I have known, worked with, and whole-heartedly looked up to is Yasmin Mason, owner of the Fermentation Farm in Costa Mesa. This woman is a legend. She has changed the world by connecting with people- one on one. In those very terms, she has given me incredible insight on what it is to not only be a business leader, but impact your community, one tiny ripple at a time. Lastly, I must also give a giant shout out to the Pandr Design Co. founders- Roxy Prima, and Phoebe Cornog. These two are single handedly changing the canon for what it means to be a working artist in the world. Game changers, life changers, I will be a lifelong supporter of these two, and the INSANE value they bring to the trade, skill, and professionalism it takes to be a creative business person.
