So, first it started with  lobotomies, then it went to goat testes, topped with Opium and alcohol for babies (and very tired parents), on to tapeworm dieting tactics, and lastly, the Chatsworth Disaster of 1979.
There are still a few minor adjustment I am going to make, but I am pretty happy with this bunch of misfits. =)

I almost cannot believe this stuff really happened!
I am really excited about this series, and will post again when they are finished. =)

The Lobotomy piece is finished! For a look at the earlier stages, scroll down. =D
I have also started a piece about another famous bit of medical craziness: Goat Gland Transplants!
So, what is a Goat Gland Transplant? A surgical procedure that started in 1917 by a con-artist who bought his medical degree, John R. Brinkley. He implanted a goat gonad into a human testicle, claiming it would cure impotence, mental illness, acne, obesity, vision problems, tumors... and number of other medical ailments.  He became incredibly rich from this surgery (at $750 each), and perfomed over 16,000 transplants throughout his career. He even implanted goat testes in women who wanted baby boys, and goat ovaries in women who wanted baby girls.

This idea was so horrifying I could not pass it up. I listen to a lot of podcasts, and one that struck me was the "Stuff You Should Know" Podcast with Chuck Bryant and Josh Clark (both are pretty dreamy) on Lobotomies and how popular they were between 1946 and the late '60's. Hence, and concept was born:
Clearly, this piece is not done yet. But a critical look at human behavior. If you really want to be touched, google "my lobotomy"... but be warned, I cried at the end.
